This hat uses the following stitches:
ch - Chain
dc - Double Crochet
sl st - Slip Stitch
hdc - Half Double
fpdc - Front Post Double Crochet
bpdc - Back Post Double Crochet
In the third loop - Work into the back third loop of a hdc.
dc3tog/dc4tog - double crochet 3 together/double crochet 4 together

This is recommended to use worsted weight yarn or two strands of light weight yarn together.
